Liverpool John Moores University’s PGCEi – An innovative pathway to becoming an avant-garde world class educator.
Almost everyone aspires to excel in his or her career and a postgraduate degree from a prestigious institution is one of the major factors that drives career advancement. Every person has an individual talent and passion that needed to be developed and enhanced. An excellent teacher may be one of the many with this inherent talent and a burning passion, however, may not be recognised due to the lack of academic qualification in education.
A good programme in education serves to enhance the career ambitions and aspirations of teachers, whether they are currently working or pursuing higher education to gain expertise, skills, and competencies as educators.
With the aim of developing informed, knowledgeable, outstanding teachers and related professionals, the ‘Postgraduate Certificate in Education (International)’ (PGCEi) highlights creativity and research-informed teaching through intentional theory and practice. The course combines academic and professional requirements with on-the-job training if you choose to pursue it, making the course neither too easy nor too arduous.
Any working professionals who have impressive experience as teachers and educators who have been in the field for so long yet lack of academic qualification as teachers can benefit from the PGCEi course. There is no time constraint to complete the course, and you can work full-time while doing so. It does take a lot of research and reading but the mentorship and peer reviews, along with the fact that most of what you do can directly relate to your classroom, make this less daunting.
PGCEi students often realise that they have a job that they love after taking this course, meeting friends who survived beyond the course, and learning plenty of helpful skills to progress with their chosen career.
A broad network of teachers and exemplary faculty members collaborate to create meaningful sessions, and the ability to connect with these teachers at any time makes it the best part of the programme. There are several ways to review peers’ work, including the introductory event, the online learning environment, or peer review tasks. The teaching process and how learning is understood are always open for interaction, critiques, and discussion. The process of modifying how you teach can be enlightening, inspiring, and frustrating at times, but it really forces you to take a fresh look at your approach.
Research, guidance, and technical information will be accessed and processed by students during the course. They will gain conceptual and procedural knowledge. Individual support and guidance will be offered, but also a Community of Practice will be formed; exploring, speculating, and evaluating; engaging in problem-finding and problem-solving activities. Throughout the course, modules emphasize evidence-based practice in a school context as well as in a broader, wider learning context.
